The discharge lamp is made from quartz glass and is closed at each end with a pinch, through which the current feeds are led, vacuum-tight. The discharge container is surrounded by an evacuated covering sleeve of quartz glass, whose ends are also pinch-closed, and through which the supply conductors lead to the exterior. The ends of the discharge container are provided in the usual way, with a heat accumulating coating. The discharge container holds mercury and noble gas mixt., has a capacity of 6.7 cc and is additionally filled with a halogen, typically an iodide, and argon to a pressure of 40 mb. Additionally there are actinide isotopes of the gp. Pa, Np, Pu, Am, Cu, Bk or Cf with half lives of at least 500 a. Filled in this manner, the lamp exhibits a light yield of 63 lm/w, a colour temp Tn of 4200 deg.K. Colour coordinates x being 0.365, y being 0.347, (Ra) of 90. Current consumption is 3.3 A and power consumption 350 W.
