The appts. transfers a patient, partic. bedridden, from a supporting surface. One or more supporting belts (2) are placed between the patient and the surface (1), its ends being joined together by a further belt (4) passed over one or more transport rollers (8). The roller height in relation to the supporting surface is adjustable. The rollers can be mounted on a rail (5) and arranged to slide along it, and the rail itself can be arranged to slide horizontally in relation to the supporting surface.
