Drift mining conveyor rests on anchored carriage - having driven gear wheels engaging tooth racks on conveyor sides to move it forward

The (scraper chain) conveyor (12) is partic. intended for underground drift mining operations and has a mechanism (16) to move the conveyor in longitudinal direction. This mechanism comprises a carriage (20) which can be anchored in position and has a drive assembly (28) engaging a longitudinally extending element (24) on the side (19) of the conveyor. This element is a tooth rack meshing with a driven (29) gear wheel (30) of the assembly (28). Tooth racks (24) and drive assemblies (28) are pref. arranged to either side of the conveyor. The tooth racks may each consist of a U-section (26,27) whose flanges (26) carry longitudinally spaced bolts (25).
