The sound synthesiser uses a non-linear distortion of a first sinusoidal signal of frequency f1 to obtain a signal containing several harmonies of frequency k1, f1, k1 being a positive integer or nil. The instantaneous amplitude of the first signal is multiplied by a second periodic signal comprising a frequency f2. The periodic signal obtained is converted into one having a spectrum containing the frequencies f2 +- k1f1. By a similar process a signal having frequencies k2f2 +- k1f1 is obtained, where k2 is again a positive integor or zero. A third signal fp is then introduced to obtain a signal having a spectrum including frequencies fp +- k2f2 + k1f1.
