Horizontal axis medium power wind turbine - uses small short bladed turbines mounted in enclosing nozzle, and shutter over entrance to turbine to control speed

The medium power horizontal axis wind turbine is made up of an array of small horizontal axis turbines grouped on a single base with their axes parallel to each other. Each small turbine comprises a slowly converging nozzle (2,5) with a central aerodynamic core. Between the core and the nozzle walls small turbines are fixed and have short multi blade fans driving an electricgenerator. The array is mounted on a base (16) which is oriented to the wind, and blade velocity control is obtained by electric motor (130,140) driven shutters (13,14) opening and closing over the entrance to each nozzle. The shutters run in a guide frame (15) at the nozzle entrance. A vane (129) fitted to the top of the array uses wind pressure to orient the assembly to the wind.
