THE INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR RECOVERING URANIUM FROM URANIUM MATERIAL CONTAINING IRON, ARSENIC AND A SILICEY MATERIAL; 14 AND 20, OR 60, THE URANIFIC MATERIAL IS LIXED IN AN AQUEOUS SULFURIC ACID SOLUTION UNDER CONDITIONS SUCH AS IN THE LEACHING SOLUTION OBTAINED THE DISSOLVED IRON IS PRESENT PREDOMINANTLY IN THE FERROUS FORM IN RELATION TO THE FERRIC FORM AND OR THE CONCENTRATION OF SULFURIC ACID IN THE LEACHING SOLUTION IS SUFFICIENTLY HIGH TO PRACTICALLY AVOID THE PRECIPITATION OF ARSENATES; URANIUM IS EXTRACTED FROM THE LEACHING SOLUTION WITH A SOLVENT EXTRACTING AGENT HAVING LOW ARSENIC AFFINITY.
