(20Z) and (20E) 3,3-ethylenedioxy-20-formylamino pregna-5,17(20)-dien-21-ols of formula (W) are new, which correspond to formula (I) of the parent patent FR2462445 (see Derwent 12197D/08, EP--23858). (20Z) and (20E) ethyl 3,3-ethylenedioxy-20-formylamino- pregna-5,17(20)-dien-21-oate (X), which are intermediates for W are also new. Cpds. W (esp. the Z isomer) may be acid hydrolysed (pref. with hydrochloric or sulphuric acid) to give 21-hydroxy-pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione or desoxycorticosterone, a known antiinflammatory. X may be converted to desoxycorticosterone without isolation of W.
