PURPOSE:To obtain a stainless steel superior to a conventional steel in strength and fatigue resistance after aging by adding specified components such as C and N so as to adjust the austenite stability index represented by a specified equation to a specified value. CONSTITUTION:This spring stainless steel contains, by wt., =0.15% C, =0.15% N, =1.5% Si, 0.5-2% Mn, 5-9% Ni and 13-20% Cr so as to make austenite stability index Md30 reprsented by the equation -30-80 deg.C and further contains 0.1-1% Ti and 0.1-1% V except the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. This steel is superior to a conventional steel in strength (hardness) and fatigue resistance after aging, manufacturability and workability, has corrosion resistance, and is suitable for use as a material for various kinds of parts.
