AGENT FOR IMPROVING EGG LAYING RATE AND EGG QUALITY OF HEN

PURPOSE:To provide an agent to increase the egg laying rate of a hen and suppress the generation of soft shell eggs and broken eggs during egg laying, by using malic or acid its salt as an active component. CONSTITUTION:Racemate or an optically active isomer of malic acid, preferably L-malic acid, or physiologically harmless salt of malic acid, preferably sodium salt, is used as an active component of the objective agent. One or more kinds of the above compounds are administered to hens directly or as a mixture with feed. The daily dose for a white leghorn is generally 25-750mg/kg (the weight of the hen), preferably 50-200mg/kg in terms of the malic acid equivalent.
