The hinge for a door or shutter comprises a vertical plate (A) attached to one edge of the door leaf, the upper and lower ends of which are suspended from cooperating arms (C,D) secured to the jamb. At least one horizontal arm (B) extends perpendicularly from the vertical plate over the majority of the width of the door leaf.
