Porous sintered filter mfr. - by loose sintering of spherical powder of ferritic-austenitic stainless steel

A porous sintered body with a given pore vol. which can be predetermined within narrow limits is produced by loose sintering a spherical, pref. gas atomised powder of a stainless steel having a ferritic- austenitic structure at 15-20 deg.C. The loose sintering is carried out in the ferritic state of the steel at 1200-1600 (pref. 1250-1400) deg.C. The body is esp. a filter and can be tailor-made to the desired pore vol. requirements. It is highly resistant to pitting and corrosion, esp. that caused in highly corrosive environments, e.g. in the cellulose industries.
