The device for axially rippling synthetic tubular material (12), particularly an artificial skin for producing sausages, comprises a cylindrical mandrel (10) extending longitudinally. At least two rippling wheels (20), synchronously driven, are provided around the mandrel. They are further driven circularly about the axis of the mandrel. They carry wing-shaped teeth (26), having a thin wall, cut as an arc of a circle corresponding to the cross-section of the mandrel. The teeth (26) are arranged with respect to the axis (24) of the wheel so that the tangent (30) to the trajectory of the extremity of the teeth forms an acute angle ( 90o) with the front face of each tooth being at least in the rotation quadrant wherein it is in maximum engagement with the mandrel (10). With such arrangement, a fast radial sliding of the teeth at an acute angle with the axis of the mandrel is obtained from the last ripple formed. Thereby, defects in the formation of ripples as well as damages to the tubular material are avoided.
