An apparatus for use in producing a groove of predetermined depth in a work item (15), consists of a holder (11) for a knife blade (12) and a support roller (13) connected to the holder (11), by means of which the holder (11) can rest on the work item (15), up against which a cutting clamp with the cutting edge of the knife blade (12) is placed in a position determined by means of the depth of the groove produced by the knife blade (12). The support roller (13) and the knife blade (12) are adjustable relative to each other in order to allow adjustment of the depth of the groove. In order to ensure interference free functioning of the apparatus, the support roller (13) can be adjustably fitted to the holder (11). It is adjustable in relation to the latter in two separate parallel directions perpendicular to the knife blade's (12) plane.IMAGE
