ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA multiprocessor information processing system hasan additional function to detect a fault occuring in a proces-sor. A counter is provided for each of a plurality ofprocessors for holding an associated fault supervising code.The code stored in the associated counter is periodicallyupdated by the associated processor while the update statusof the code is supervised on a cycle longer than the cycleof the updating period. If a fault occurs in one of theprocessors, the fault supervising code corresponding to thatprocessor will not be updated. Thus, the faulty processor canbe detected by periodically supervising the update status ofthe fault supervising code. The supervising operation canbe carried out by software or hardware.
