The data carrier, in partic. security paper, has a picture theme printed on by a dot screen, grain screen, line-half-tone combination, special screen techniques or as a line copy. It is printed over by a line pattern serving the purpose of protecting the data carrier. The picture theme is interrupted by a negative contour adapted to the line pattern into which negative contour the security line pattern is printed congruently. The lines of the negative contour are pref. wider than the lines of the security line pattern, so that the lines of the line pattern integrated into the picture theme are at a certain distance from the lines of the negative contour in the entire picture area, and do not touch the picture theme.
