Process for making a salt slag product capable of landfill disposal or suitable for recovery of valuable materials

Measures are indicated, by means of which the salt slag which, in the presence of moisture, evolves toxic gases and which has been used for covering molten aluminium and has been separated from the latter, can be processed to give a product which is capable of landfill disposal or can be reprocessed. For this purpose, the salt slag converted into a finely particulate form is treated with hot water, then subjected to a heat treatment, dried and cooled.
