Resin pref. polyester moulding compsn. - contg. non-absorbing vegetal filler, e.g. nut shell powder, allowing lower resin content

A moulding compsn. comprises a polymerisable resin and a non-absorbing vegetal filler. The resin is pref. a polyester and the vegetal filler is pref. nutshell powder, olive kernel powder or oleaginous grain, kernel or shell powder. The compsn. pref. also contains an inorganic filler. Use of non-absorbent fillers enables amt. of resin to be reduced without adversely affecting the mechanical properties of the finished moulding (cf. use of the highly absorbent sawdust and woodflour). The compsn. exhibits compression strength which is equivalent to that obtd. with resins highly loaded with inorganic fillers, without vegetal filler. The compsn. can also be reinforced with metal wires of large dia. giving prods. which are suitable as poles, supports, stakes, masts, tiles, panels, etc.
