The half collars (1) are approximately semi-circular being connected by ball jointed (7) demountable couplings (4). They include pairs of rollers (12) which limit wheel (14) penetration. The collar also has barrel sockets (15) for hexagonal section radial winding levers. The tool is rotated or wound relative to the pipe. Forked half-collar ends (2,3) locate a connecting bar (4) one end of which is pinned (5). A nut (9) with a captive slidable tommy bar (10) screws onto the threaded free end of the bar (4), transmitting clamping forces through and annular hemi-sphere (7) located by a collar socket of reciprocal form.
