The drawbar (3) is telescopic, one part (6) fixed to the trailer and the other (7) capable of being fixed to a tractor. The sliding part acts automatically on the trailer brakes when the drawbar shortens. A locking pin (10) slides parallel with its vertical axis to prevent contraction in the lower position. A spring (13) tends to push the pin up and there is a sloping face (15) on the drawbar. A counterweight (20) runs on this face and forces the pin down when in the rear position to immobilise braking in reverse.
