The waffle iron (4) is made up of two halves (1), hinged to allow insertion and removal of waffles. Handles (8) are provided at the side rather than opposite the hinge and a steam chimney (12) is moulded between the heating plates and the handles to safeguard the operator's hands. The power cord is connected near the hinge to minimise encumbrance when opening and closing. The faces of the two halves have a moulded ridge (6) at the same height as the highest point of the handle (7) to form stands during horizontal operation, and moulded ridges (13) at the end opposite the handle to provide stands for vertical storage. The handle incorporates grooves (9) around which the cord is wound during storage.
