The gas lighter has the burner tube (3) disposed below the housing (1). A cap (13) provided with an outlet (15) is secured to the end of the burner tube. The axis (16) of the outlet nozzle extends at an angle to the burner tube axis (17). The cap has projections (14) that are crimped over a collar (11) of the burner tube, a seal (12) being provided between the cap and the collar. The seal ensures that the gas is allowed to escape only through the outlet. The angled flame enables the lighter to be used safely with a pipe or cooker, without burning the hand.
