Electronic voltage regulator fault indicator for motor vehicles - uses integrated circuit with comparators to detect alternator or regulator failure and to give different signals for respective faults

The unit comprises four comparators (1,2,3,4) integrated on the same base. The first (1) is used to control the power amplifier (6) which drives the alternator excitor coil, and the other three (2,3,4) drive, through a medium power stage (16) the three comparator outputs. These outputs control a impulse generator (9) to produce the various fault indications (8). The three warning indications are distinguished by the associated warning blinking at either one frequency, or twice that frequency and thirdly remaining lit continuously. The arrangement provides an indication of overvoltage, undervoltage and zero output from the alternator, as may result from the breaking of the drive belt.
