Long-life reforming catalyst of low hydrogenolysis activity - contains platinum-Gp. metal, tantalum, and iron, cobalt or nickel

Supported catalyst contains (in wt.% w.r.t. support): 0.05-0.6 (pref. 0.1-0.5) of a Pt gp. metal, 0.005-3 (pref. 0.05-0.4) Ta, 0.005-5 (pref. 0.05-0.8) of Fe, Co or Ni, and 0.1-15 of a halogen. The catalyst is useful in reforming, aromatics prodn., isomerisation of paraffins and aromatics, hydrocracking, and hydrodealkylation and steam dealkylation of aromatics. In prodn. of gasoline of octane number 102 and above, the catalyst shows increased life and causes less hydrogenolysis. Benefits are optimal under severe conditions, i.e. low pressure, high temp. and prolonged operation.
