STRENGTHENING PRESERVATION AND REPAIR OF ROOFS

An abutment device for strengthening, preserving or restoring roofs of the kind comprising slates or tiles hung on battens comprises a base flange (11) incorporating projections (12), which can be driven into a batten (15), and a working flange (13), which can be secured to the inside face (16) of a slate or tile (17) by means of an adhesive (18). The abutment illustrated is of unitary construction and is made of sheet metal. Holes (14) in the working flange (13) enable adhesive to form rivet-like securing means (19) so that the adhesive need not adhere to the working flange. Silicone rubber may be used as an adhesive and remains semi-rigid so as to reduce any tendency for the slate or tile to split near the adhesive when under load. IMAGE
