The weft insert cancelling mechanism is intended for a weaving loom with gripper (6) picking. Mechanism comprises a rod (7) which is arranged between the weft thread (4) feeder and the warp shed (2) and extends at an angle to, and pref. below, the weft thread or threads. This rod is connected with the armature (8) of a solenoid (9) which is energised in the event of weft thread break such that the thread is moved (10) out of the gripper path. The rod may extend in a direction parallel to the reed (3) and may be lifted in a direction at right angles to the gripper race board.
