1,264,252. Can ends; preventing corrosion in packages. HAUSTRUPS FABRIKER AS. 3 Feb., 1970 [18 Feb., 1969], No. 5055/70. Headings B8C and B8D. [Also in Division B3] A method of connecting two sheets 1, 2, at least one surface of sheet 1 being solderable and at least one surface of sheet 2 being unsolderable, comprises placing sheet 2 on a solderable surface of sheet 1 with an unsolderable surface of sheet 2 outermost, and depositing liquid solder 4 on the sheet 1 through an aperture 3 in sheet 2, the solder uniformly overlapping the edge of the aperture to form a stud. The sheet 1 may form the lid of a container and the sheet 2 a pull-tab. Additional apertured sheets may be interposed between sheets 1, 2. The connection may also be used for fastening inside a container of cooked ham an aluminium electrode for electrolytically protecting the interior of the container against corrosion. During hardening of the solder, the head of the stud 4 may be pressed as in a modified connection, Fig. 3 (not shown), in which the aperture is formed in a depression in the sheet (2). The solderable and unsolderable surfaces may be provided by appropriate coatings, e.g. a lacquer, silicone or chrome may provide unsolderable coatings.
