A separable optical interconnection 10 includes two light-transmissive members 45, 55, each of which has a recess 51, 59 in one end receiving a spherical lens 53, 60 and a tapered cavity 48, 56 in its opposite end which receives an optical fibre 11, 12. Each of the light-transmissive members 45, 55 includes a tapering exterior surface 46, 62 tapering towards its inner end and complementarily engaging a tapered internal surface 41, 43 in a tubular member 23, 29 which receives it and positions the members so that their lenses are correctly spaced and in alignment.
