Forging Process for the Manufactureof Track Chain LinksAbstractThe invention described herein concerns aforging process for the manufacture of track chainlinks, especially for worksite machines and vehicles;this process produces links that conform to thetolerances required by the dimensions and the surfacequality of opposed attachment mounting and link contactsurfaces and nut seats of finished links without itbeing necessary to machine these surfaces or nut seats.This process includes heating a metal billetin an electric furnace, the billet having a mass thatis approximately equal to that of a finished link,preforming the billet, then flat stamping the heatedbillet. A combined shaping and levelling step carriedout on the stamped piece forms parallel opposed sidesand nut seats in predetermined spaced relationship toeach other. The resulting link is controllably sizedand then subjected to a heat treatment.At the end of this process, which requires nomachining, a link is obtained whose opposed surfacesand nut seats have geometric and dimensionalrelationships that are conform to the limits of therequired tolerances.
