In a device for driving a gallery, tunnel or the like by pipe-advancing operation with a driving shield, in particular for producing an inaccessible pipeline, having a working chamber defined at the front by the face and a drilling head which works in a rotary manner in this working chamber and has drilling tools for working the ground material in sight at the face, the drilling head (8) is surrounded by a hood (20) which encloses the working chamber in such a way as to extend the driving shield and close it off towards the face. The hood (20) has apertures (24) for the passage of the drilling tools (18). Furthermore, tools (47) for working the ground in a scraping or cutting manner are provided on the hood (20). The hood (20) is axially displaceable relative to the drilling head (8). This enables the scraping tools (47) and the drilling tools (18), e.g. as hard-rock drilling tools, to be alternatively used separately from one another or together for working the ground so that any ground formations, even with embedded erratic blocks of hard rock, can be driven through without having to exchange tools.
