A pilot-controlled pressure-relief valve contains a two-stage piston. One stage is connected to a preset pressure-adjusting valve. The other stage is connected either to a preset pressure-adjusting valve or to a weakly sprung non-return valve. One stage is connected to the inlet passage and the other stage is connected to the outlet passage via a restriction point. In the one embodiment, the valve likewise acts as a pilot-controlled pressure-relief valve upon reversal of the direction of flow, and in the other embodiment the valve acts as an afterfeed valve upon reversal of the direction of flow.
