High tensile strength armoured undersea cable - uses two half shell profiles which clip over cable core and are surrounded by armouring wires in protective sheath

The cable armour is resistant to high tensile and compressive forces, as may be encountered in submarine cable applications. The armour is composed of two profiles (2), each in the form of a half shell set around the core (1) of the cable, which lock together. The profiles may be placed longitudinally or skewed along the length of the cable. The profile edges are serrated or castellated to clip together with the edge of the opposite profile. The assembled profiles are surrounded by armouring wires (8) running along the length of the cable, and the armouring wires are surrounded by or embedded in a protective outer sheath (9). A sealing compound e.g. petroleum jelly is placed on the surfaces of the profile.
