Briquetting press esp. for compacting waste fuels consists of a feed hopper a hydraulic press and a motor pump drive connected to a hydraulic liquid reservoir . The press includes (a) a charging and preliminary pressing device , beneath the hopper ; (b) a compacting cylinder at one side of the charging device ; (c) a compression chamber at the opposite side of the compacting cylinder and coaxial therewith, and (d) a hydraulic pincer mounted at the exit of the compression chamber. The feed hopper is provided with a spiked bar arranged above its exit, driven in rotation by a hydraulic motor (10) to prevent bridging. The hydraulic drive liquid provided by the motor pump is delivered to the different moving parts by means of electrovalves operated by means of end of course electrical contacts and contacts connected to a control unit. The press cen be operated in areas poorly served with electricity. It is inexpensive, light in weight and does not provide a need to provide the pressures used in prior art briquetting presses.
