PURPOSE:To obtain the titled alloy contg. austenite as the principal structure by melting an alloy consisting of a specified amount of C, inevitable impurity elements and the balance Fe and by solidifying the molten alloy by rapid cooling. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consisting of, by weight, 1.5-3.5%C, inevitable impurity elements, =0.5% Si, =2% Mn and =0.1% Al permitted by necessity for refining and the balance Fe is melted, and the molten alloy is solidified by rapid cooling at = about 104 deg.C/sec cooling rate by a single-roll method or other method to manufacture a nonmagnetic Fe-C alloy contg. austenite as the principal structure and having high strength such as = about 500 Vickers hardness and superior ductility. The Fe-C alloy can be easily manufactured without using any expensive alloying element.
