PURPOSE:A fruit quality improver that contains 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxythioacetic acid S-ethyl ester, which has been known as a herbicide for rice paddy fields, thus showing steady queality improving effect with high safety without toxicity to men and animals and chemical injury to crops. CONSTITUTION:The objective fruit quality improver contains, as an active ingredient, 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxythioacetic S-ethyl ester represented by the formula. The concentration of the ingredient effective as a fruit quality improver is less than 300ppm, preferably 200-25ppm and the timing for application ranges from about 80 days after flowering to about 180 days later. It is preferred to be combined with fungicide, insecticide, plant growth regulator or the like, when they are applied, or the preparation containing them is used for laborsaving. The improver has actions of fruit quality improvement such as acid reduction and saccharide increase of citrus trees, deciduous fruit trees or fruit vegetables.
