PURPOSE:To reduce the peripheral friction of a caisson for promoting the settlement of the caisson by a method in which a slurry in which a highly water- absorptive resin is dispersed in an oil is cast into the outer wall face of the caisson and a pressure water is injected onto the outer wall face. CONSTITUTION:When the settlement of a caisson body 1 is stopped, a slurry, prepared by dispersing a highly water-absorptive resin, e.g., the partial hydrolysate of starch-methacrylate graft copolymer, etc., in an oil, is injected into an outer wall face 5 from an injection port 2, and then pressure water is jetted from a jet nozzle 3. The slurry cast from the injection port 2 is diffused to the outer wall face 5 by jetting the pressure water and gelled into water-insoluble water-selled particles to form a gel layer between the caisson body and the ground 4. Thus, the peripheral friction force between the caisson body 1 and the ground 4 is greatly reduced and the settlement of the caisson is thus promoted.
