ABSTRACTAmorphous metal alloy powders are synthesized by solid statedecomposition reactions. At least one precursor compound isthermally decomposed at a temperature below the crystallizationtemperature of the amorphous metal alloy to be formed. Thedecomposition product comprises an intimate mixture of the elementsof the alloy and, after heat-treating if necessary, exhibitsamorphous characteristics. Amorphous metal alloy shapes aresynthesized by providing an intimate mixture of the components of theamorphous alloy, which mixture includes at least one ductilecomponent. The mixture may be subjected to well-known formingtechniques at a temperature below the crystallization temperature ofthe amorphous metal alloy to be formed. The ductile component of themixture acts as a binder matrix to provide strength and uniformproperties to the formed object.
