The combined pump and motor unit comprises a motor having a housing (10) with an end cover (14) away from, and a cover (16) on the side of, the pump, and there is a motor shaft (22) carried in bearings (18, 20) in the covers, and a pump unit having a rotor coaxial with and coupled to (56) the shaft. The pump housing has inlet and outlet connections (44) and sealing means. The motor end cover (16) is integral with the pump housing and has a tubular inward extension (36) which preferably serves to locate the motor shaft bearing (20). It may be secured to the motor housing via a flange (34).
