An invalid or handicapped person is conveyed by an electrically powered carriage with one driven wheel (3) at the rear, and two steered wheels (1) at the front. The seat is carried by a frame (14) over the rear wheel, and can be adjusted backwards and forwards. The frame carrying the steering handle (22) is attached to the rear frame (14) by a connection (30) enabling them to be separated. The steering handle is connected to a steering linkage between the front wheels by a column (21) which can be swung downwards against the force of a spring. In its lowest position, this column acts on a brake, and contacts a fixed stop (23) in its highest position.
