METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SINGLE PULSE ELECTROMAGNETIC MEASUREMENTS OF SOIL CONDUCTIVITY AND DIELECTRIC CONSTANT

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA method and installation for ground illumination by means ofelectromagnetic radiation generated by an aerial simulator coupledto the ground and for calculation of the dielectric constant and conductivityof the ground from said radiation are described. Radiation istransmitted in form of an electromagnetic pulse having predeterminedcharacteristics from an aerial simulator of the horn type, the char-acteristics of the pulse are sensed at a point in the illuminatedarea and the dielectric constant and the conductivity of the groundare calculated from the detected values. The apparatus constitutingthe simulator comprises at least two conductive layers e.g. of con-ductive wires, united on one side to form the horn, and ending upon the opposite side at the ground where they are extended by a buriedstructure and on that side where they are united, in a connector toprovide connection with pulse generating and measurement means.
