Collectorless DC motor with rectifier control - has switching transistors for current regulation by pulse width modulation

The collectorless DC motor generates in four quadrants and with a rating of above 0.5 kilowatt. The stator windings are coupled to the DC source in dependence on the rotor position via a thyristor bridge network. This is connected to the DC source via two supply conductors each incorporating a switching transistor providing current regulation by pulse width modulation. The motor may comprise a 3-phase synchronous motor with a permanent magnet rotor. It can be used to rotate a machine tool, or as a servo motor and the use of the current regulation transistor prevents the possibility of the motor fuses being blown owing to thyristor misfiring, for greater reliability and simplification of the regulation circuit.
