PURPOSE:To easily alter the internal constitution of an input/output device at fine level and to facilitate diagnosing operation by providing a service processor and altering the constitution of hardware by the service processor. CONSTITUTION:When the hardware constitution of the input/output controller 10 is altered, a basic processor 14 sets up constitution information after the alteration in a main storage device 13 and sends a memory transfer command to the service processor 25 through a system interface. The processor 25 transfers data from the device 13 to a storage device 23 through its own interface. Then, the processor 14 sends an initialization command to the processor 25. The processor resets the system according to the constitution control data of the device 23. The control program in the processor 25 recognizes that the constitution alteration is completed correctly by reading the end status of the processor 25 through the system interface. The setting of the internal constitution of the device 10 is completed by the series of operations.
