The mechanism is intended for removing oil washed-up on a (sandy) beach. It comprises (a unit moved along and carrying) a horizontal independently driven shaft (1) with a number of axially spaced discs (2) just in contact with the sand. Scrapers (3) arranged in the spaces between the discs remove the adhering oil which is discharged (4) e.g. via a conveyor belt.
