Antibiotic pa-39504-X1 from streptomyces sp. atcc 31569

Antibiotic PA-39504-X1 of formula (I) and its salts with bases are new: Cpd. (I) is obtd. by aerobic cultivation of Streptomyces argenteolus ATCC 31589 or Streptomyces tokunonensis ATCC 31569 in a nutrient medium, esp. at 20-40 deg.C for 20-80 hrs. The isolated (I) as Me ester has a mass spectrum m/e of 341 and characterising circular dichroism, u.v. absorption and n.m.r. spectra. Cpds. (I) is a broad-spectrum antibacterial and beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is suitable for use as a therapeutic agent, a veterinary agent and a sterilising agent, and it can be used as a beta-lactamase inhibitor in synergistic combination with a penicillin, cephalosporin or other beta-lactam antibiotic. Dose is 0.1-30 g daily subcutaneously.
