ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe invention is concerned with a method of refininga pig iron melt by top-blowing oxygen onto the melt whileintroducing an inert gas at the bottom of the melt andincorporating a cold solid charge into the melt. Accordingto the invention, slag formation on the melt is minimized byadding slag-forming lime to the melt gradually and in pro-portion with the buildup of slag components therein. Themethod of the invention enables to increase the charge-receiving capacity of the melt.
