TOPICAL TREATMENT OF DIABETES WITH INSULIN AND PENETRANT ENHANCER APPLIED TO THE SKIN AND COVERED BY A PATCH

diabetes treatment composition by application to the skin surface of a diabetic subject, comprising a first layer in contact with the surface of the skin and a second layer overlying the first. The first layer contains an effective amount of insulin for treating diabetes, an effective amount of a penetration enhancer and a suitable carrier. The second layer comprises a non-porous material suitable adhesive pellet-shaped. In a preferred embodiment, the first layer is a gel and comprises an appropriate gel substance. This composition is applied to the skin surface of a diabetic subject for a period of time sufficient to allow the insulin present in the composition to cross the skin and deploy a diabetes treatment action.
