The adjustable open end spanner has a grip (12) with head part (28) on its end comprising a stationary jaw (10) and a channel in which the slide part (28) of the movable jaw (26) is operated by a screw (36). The end of the stationary jaw is split accommodating the fin extension (20) of the jaw bit (16). The jaw bit has a slot (22) with a sloping position towards the gripping surface (18). The jaw bit is guided on a pin (24) so that if a grip is rotated (direction A), the jaw bit slides towards the open end. The original jaw opening is reduced (L1 to L2) and a positive grip on the workpiece (a) is achieved.
