This grinding machine is combined with a device R, which is actuated automatically, for putting into place and for removing the cylindrical part P to be ground, this device comprising a gripping head 22 capable of engaging with an end of the said piece P and transferring it, the speed control cylinder 12 being then at rest and the grinding wheel 1 being in a remote position. Advantageously, the cylinder 12 and a work rest 10 can be displaced parallel to the axis 15 of the cylinder and to move thus with the piece P towards the gripping head 22, before the latter comes into contact with the end of the piece P.
