PURPOSE:To obviate a temperature rise at the time of generation of a vapor of a medium under the effect of a gas pressure, the attendant pulsation of the medium, rapid condensation or other unstable phenomena, by disposing two evaporating parts so that flows of the medium are parallel to each other and the liquid levels are approximately equal to each other. CONSTITUTION:A heat exchanger comprises the first evaporating part 1 for recovering heat from a high-temperature fluid, a second evaporating part 6 serving as an auxiliary heat source and as a warming heat source in a rest period, a condensing part 3, and a temperature controller 8 and a temperature control valve 9 for controlling the temperature of a vapor of a heat-transmitting medium. The temperature controller 8 detects the temperature in a vapor connecting pipe 2, and when the detected temperature is lowered to or below a predetermined temperature, it sends a signal to the control valve 9, whereby a heated vapor is supplied to the second evaporating part 6 to heat the latter, and a heated vapor required for a vapor connecting pipe 4 is fed, thereby performing a control for obtaining a predetermined temperature. Since the liquid level 5 in the second evaporating part 6 is located in a heat exchanger tube 11 and no liquid pressure is exerted, the evaporating temperature is not raised, and accordingly, rapid condensation of a vapor due to contact with a liquid of a different temperature is prevented from occurring, and the so-called steam hammering can be prevented from occurring.
