MANUFACTURE OF HIGH CARBON STEEL HAVING SUPERIOR SHOCK AND WEAR RESISTANCE

PURPOSE:To obtain a steel material having superior shock and wear resistances and suitable for a circular saw for mowing or the like by adding Mo to a high carbon steel so as to relieve temper brittleness due to P. CONSTITUTION:A high carbon steel material contg. 0.5-1.0% C, 0.50% Si, 0.60-1.50% Mn, 0.020% P, 0.15-0.50% Mo and 0.20-0.060% Al and satisfying Mo/P=10 is a steel material having superior shock and wear resistances as a material for a circular saw for mowing or the like. The steel material is hardened at 780-860 deg.C and tempered at 200-450 deg.C. The resulting steel material is widely applicable to various uses requiring high strength, toughness and wear resistance as well as to a circular saw for mowing.
