PURPOSE:To form an ornamental layer having fine metallic luster by plating by successively forming an underlayer having a smooth surface and an electrically conductive layer on a nonconductive blank having a porous surface and by carrying out electroplating. CONSTITUTION:Paint is applied to a blank 1 having a porous or rough surface and made of an electric nonconductor such as wood or urethane foam to form an underlayer 2 having a smooth surface. The underlayer 2 prevents the permeation of electrically conductive paint, a treating soln., etc. After the underlayer 2 is well dried, electrically conductive paint contg. fine metallic powder is applied to form an electrically conductive layer 3. The layer 3 may be formed by carrying out conventional pretreatment for electroplating on ABS resin or the like. Desired electroplating such as gold plating, brass plating or Cr plating is then carried out on the layer 3 to form a layer 4 having metallic luster. Thus, the blank 1 can be ornamented by plating at a low cost.
